{Party Feature} Super Train-tastic 2nd Birthday

It isn’t quite yet 6 months since we celebrated my little boy turning 2….and as the saying goes “better late than never”, so I’m proudly sharing some pics from his train themed birthday celebration!

Selecting the theme for his birthday was pretty easy this year – he loves trains.  He has a Thomas the Train wooden railway set that he plays with every day, so the thought of a train themed party seemed to fit right along his interests.

Despite his birthday being in November, it had been a rather warm fall (Yes, we live in California) – so we opted to celebrate at the local neighborhood park.

For the cake, I decided to order a cake from the local grocery store and accented it with a train topper that I made from gum paste.  I got the how-to tutorial from this blog post and loved the idea of adding a couple extra train cars to carry two candles!

For extra dessert (we can’t only have cake!), we had some chocolate cupcakes and marshmallow pops!

I designed some  printable invitations, cupcake flags and and then with putting some bright blue tablecloths on the benches – it brought the park right to life! For the party favors, I used some clear boxes, filled them with some train themed goodies and tied them up with red twine and blue twine!

All in all, it was a great day. My little guy was thrilled to spend the day with family and friends and enjoyed several rides around the park on the Choo Choo train!

Brown Cupcake Liners / Brown Baking Cups – what sizes do they come in?

Brown cupcake liners are one of our customers favorites. So we thought we’d share some details on our brown greaseproof cupcake liners and the differences in sizes.
Bakers Stock - Brown Cupcake Liners
We carry them in 3 different base sizes: Mini Base, Standard Base, Jumbo Base

MINI: The dimensions of our mini brown cupcake liners are: base:1 1 /2″ and height: 1″. The mini brown cupcake liners require a mini muffin pan. They are perfect for mini desserts.

STANDARD: The standard brown cupcake liners all have a base of 2″ and come in 3 different heights:
2″x 1 1/4″ (aka “Std”) – these are the standard height of your typical cupcake liner
2″x 1 3/8 “(aka “Special”) – these are slightly taller than the standard and give you “more” cake to eat!
2″ x 1 3/4″ (aka “Tall”)- these are the tallest cupcake liner in the standard base that we carry. You see these used most often as the cupcakery bakeries and used for special events. They are about a whole 1/2″ taller than the standard height ones.

JUMBO: The dimensions of our jumbo brown cupcake liners are: base:2 1/4″ and height: 1 7/8″. The jumbo brown cupcake liners require a jumbo muffin pan. They are great staple for the larger size muffins.

{Recipe Feature} Coconut Cupcakes

Anytime I go to a gourmet cupcake shop, I always select a coconut cupcake. I don’t know what it is, but I like the sweetness of coconut – its just plain perfect for me!

So when MissouriFarmChick told me that she recently made some coconut cupcakes in our polka dot baking cups, I begged her for the recipe. Ok, well maybe I didn’t exactly beg…I asked 🙂   I really like to try recipes that friends have tried and recommend. So here is the recipe, courtesy of MissouriFarmChick from MyKitchenAddictions.com

 Ingredients
FOR THE CUPCAKES:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1½ tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter (at room temperature)
2 cups sugar
5 eggs (at room temperature)
1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp coconut extract
3½ oz Angel Flake sweetened, shredded coconut
FOR THE GLAZE:
2 tbsp coconut milk
1/2 tsp coconut extract
1/2 – 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted

Instructions

FOR THE CUPCAKES:  Preheat oven to 325°F.  Line two 12-cup cupcake pans with baking cups.  In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt.  In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer (on medium speed) to cream the butter and sugar until fluffy (about 3 minutes). Add in eggs, one at a time, and mix well. Stir in the milk, coconut extract and shredded coconut. Finally, add flour, baking powder and salt mixture, and stir to combine. Pour batter into prepared cupcake pans and bake until a cake tester comes out clean when inserted in the middle of a cupcake, approximately 30-35 minutes.

FOR THE GLAZE:   Whisk together coconut milk, coconut extract and confectioner’s sugar until smooth, adding more sugar as needed to thicken the glaze (or more milk if you want to thin it out).  Cool cupcakes in pans for 5-10 minutes before removing. Drizzle with glaze while cupcakes are still warm.  Sprinkle the top of each glazed cupcake with shredded coconut.

{Party Feature} Dinosaur Themed First Birthday

So this party feature is a personal one….Today I’m sharing my son Karsin’s first birthday! I have to tell you that this past year has FLOWN by! everyone always says to enjoy every moment, they grow so quick…and gosh, isn’t that the truth!

I thought about what kind of a theme would be fun and I came across a really cute dinosaur printable set, so decided to go with it as our theme. This meant a lot of printing and assembling – but it was totally worth it.

We had reserved the neighborhood rec center and ended up deciding to just have it in the adjacent courtyard since the weather turned out to be beautiful and sunny. Despite the bagazillion pictures from the party – we actually didn’t have one with just the dessert table all set up. So, yes, that’s me and Karsin there! HI! =)


For the dessert table – we had cupcakes, kettle corn, cookies, cookies, more cookies, and a cake!

For the cupcakes – I made half of them chocolate and the other half vanilla. I used tall brown cupcake liners which turned out really great because I wanted the cupcakes to have a bit more “cake”, but still was able to use my standard cupcake pans. For the frosting, I used Glory’s Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe. I have to say…it is a GREAT recipe. It looks fantastic when you pipe it and it tastes even better.

For the cookies – Norma from Deliciously Divine made personalized cookies with Karsin’s name and dinosaur footprints. Norma even matched the different colors in the birthday theme – so sweet!

I also ordered some Stegasaurus and T-rex cookies from Lacy @ Guilty Confections.

I also packaged up some oreo’s in small treat bags.

The kettlecorn was from the local farmers market & was served up in blue striped & lime green striped popcorn boxes.

For the cake – I decided to keep it simple and adorned the front with blue fondant letters that spelled Karsin and I created a small bunting banner using some of our blue stripe party straws to tie back to the theme and colors.

For the party favors, I wanted to do something personalized and when I thought about the idea of some simple dinosaur print art, I decided to go with it. I designed printables that were personalized for each of the kids. Basically every kid became their own dinosaur! =) Here’s how they turned out:

And on the back of the frame, I had the quote: “RAWR means I love you in dinosaur”.

I used small party favor bags to hold some other small goodies & they looked perfect next to the dinosaur frames.

Using some of the paper from the printable set, we made party hats for each kid:

I was super happy with the way it turned out and it was really great having our friends and family with us to celebrate!

{Party Feature} Halloween Themed Dessert Table

HI, I’m Norma from Deliciously Divine and I’m excited to share this Halloween themed dessert table that I designed and created.  Hope that you enjoy!

{I’m a Baker} Sports Themed Cake & Cupcakes

I’m excited to announce the start of our I’m a Baker spotlight series. For all the baking enthusiasts, this is a series where we put a spotlight on your baking creations and adventures. It is a fun way to share something that you baked yourself!

Our first I’m a Baker spotlight is on Norma! Norma has some impressive creativity skills! Her father has been a baker for over 60 years and she has definitely taken after him and added some of her own baking personality into it.

Norma created this super fun sports themed birthday cake with matching cupcakes to celebrate a special first birthday! She added football, basketball and baseball accents around the cake and on each cupcake to tie it all together.
